I’ve been privileged enough to serve on Allentown City Council for the past two years, and I can honestly make the following statement: this is an incredibly exciting time for the city.
First and foremost is the incoming Arena project. This arena and the related development will ultimately result in the second AAA-class sports team that will call Allentown its home. The project will bring hundreds of million in development to our city. More importantly: it will create hundreds of jobs and give thousands of people from across the region a chance to come to Allentown and see what we have to offer. This arena will help to transform downtown, and thus our city.
There are other reasons to be excited as well. Our city finances are relatively stable and this year’s budget didn’t increase any taxes. Crime decreased again this year, and an additional ten police officers will be on our streets within the next few months. Our ongoing Waterfront project can help to transform a critical area of the city.
I would never pretend that major problems do not remain in Allentown. Still, on the whole, we are heading in the right direction, and there is quite a bit to be excited about.
To hear more, I hope you’ll join me at the next West Watch meeting on Tuesday, December 13, 7pm at the West End Youth Center. Hope to see you there!
P.S. The West Watch will be collecting food donations for Second Harvest Food Bank. Even if you can’t stay for the meeting, please consider stopping by and making a donation.
